Steil Tops Field at SICL West Tourney
BROOKLYN – North Mahaska’s Aly Steil came into Thursday’s South Iowa Cedar League West golf tournament with the 9-hole low of 45 and averaging 46.75 on the season. Steil shot a 44-43 – 87 to earn the top spot. She edged BGM’s Aurelia Roudabush by a stroke (88) and Charlotte Donohue of Colfax-Mingo by two (89).
As a team, North Mahaska finished fourth in the five-team event. Montezuma took the title carding a 406 followed by BGM with a 408. Colfax-Mingo was third with a 446. NM shot a 461 and Lynnville-Sully was fifth with a 496.
Golfers faced a stiff wind as they traversed the hilly Brooklyn Victor Country Club Course.
Lacey Campbell followed Steil with a 64-59 – 123; Elise Westercamp shot 65-50 – 124 and Avary Westercamp shot 61-66 – 127.
Montezuma and Colfax-Mingo were the only teams with two sub-100 scorers. Izzy Roorda and Claire Erselius shot a 94 and 99 for the Bravettes while Donohue shot an 89 and Lily Brenner carded a 97.
North Mahaska will return to action Thursday when they host HLV, Montezuma and Keota at Prairie Knolls.
