Leonard Plate, 71, of Oskaloosa died Saturday, March 24, 2018, under the care of Mahaska Hospice at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born August 4, 1946, near Cedar in Mahaska County, the son of Evert and Lucille Black Plate.

Leonard attended school in Oskaloosa.

Following school, he worked various places including Dooley Manufacturing in Oskaloosa.

On August 6, 1983, he was united in marriage to Joyce Phillips in Oskaloosa. Joyce died July 9, 2008.

Leonard enjoyed helping people and visiting with family and friends. He delighted in spending time with his family.

His family includes his step children: Joey Silvers of Oskaloosa, Cory Silvers of Oskaloosa and April (& Rocky) Lancaster of Ottumwa; eight step grandchildren: Brittany VanSteenwyk, Devin Ferguson, Tisha Ferguson, Austin Ferguson, Tyler (& Dakota) Silvers, Brady (& Amanda) Silvers, Andrew (& Shelby) Silvers, and Kyle Silvers; two step great grandchildren, Aiden Silvers and Avery Silvers; six brothers: Glen (& Peggy) Plate of Oskaloosa, John (& Margaret) Plate of Oskaloosa, Gene (& Darlene) Plate of Glendale, Arizona, Robert Plate of Oskaloosa, Ivan (& Joaquina) Plate of Des Moines, and Howard (& Elaine) Plate of Lodi, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sallie DeGeest; and two brothers in infancy, Dean and Edward Plate.

As was Leonard’s wish his body has been cremated.
Visitation and a graveside service will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Activity Fund at the Oskaloosa Care Center.
