Larry Van Woerkom, 75 of New Sharon went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday morning, October 16, 2017 at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Larry E. Van Woerkom, the son of Bastian and Gertie (Vande Wall) Van Woerkom, was born on December 30, 1941 in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Larry attended country schools before graduating from Oskaloosa High School in 1960. On May 4, 1962, Larry was united in marriage to Rose Ann Branderhorst at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. To this union three daughters were born, Denise, Deb and Darla.

Larry worked a short time at Farm Service before starting his 34 year career at Mid American Energy. Larry was a lineman for a few years before moving to New Sharon as a serviceman in 1974, retiring in 2004.

Larry enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing games with his friends, coffee time with his buddies at the Fire Station and volunteering at Blood Drives. In his free time he enjoyed helping others. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting activities.

Larry was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa where he was an Elder and Deacon, taught Sunday School and was a youth leader. He served on the New Sharon City Council, the New Sharon Fire Department for several years, an Iowa Donor Network advocate speaker and worked side by side with his wife, Rose Ann, on the New Sharon Spring Festival Committee and the North Mahaska Booster Club.

His memory will be cherished by his wife of 55 years, Rose Ann Van Woerkom of New Sharon; three daughters: Denise (& Kent) Woods of Mendota, IL, Deb (& Dave) Masching of Grimes, IA and Darla (& John) Feltner of Olathe, KS; six grandchildren: Ryan (& Savana) Woods, Tyler Woods, Jake Masching, Maci Masching, Nick Feltner and Jessica Feltner; two great grandchildren, Ryder and Rylee Woods; a brother, John (& Louise) Van Woerkom of Pella; three sisters-in-law: Marilyn Louwsma, Joan Vos and Pearl (& Bob) Vos; a brother-in-law, Calvin (& Ruth) Branderhorst; and many other relatives and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sylvia Quick; parents-in-law, Lambert and Hendreen Branderhorst; and three brothers-in-law: Bill Quick, Ernest Louwsma and Marvin Vos.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Friday, October 20, 2017 at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.
Burial will be held in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Open visitation will be held Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon and will continue with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Sharon Fire and Rescue or the Iowa Donor Network.
