Lady Statesmen Fall to Ranked D-2 Wayne State in Exhibition

Wayne, Neb.–The William Penn women’s basketball team unfortunately came up well short against Wayne State in an 81-47 exhibition loss Tuesday night.

The Lady Statesmen trailed the entire night to the #10 team in NCAA Division II. Wayne State (2-0) held a 50.9%-28.6% edge from the floor and also owned a 46-36 advantage on the glass.

Orielle Thomas (Sr., Waynesville, Mo., Physical Education) and Arielle McClellan (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif., Psychology) both managed ten points. Thomas also pulled down ten rebounds in addition to two blocks and two steals.

Sam Abens (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) finished with nine points (three three-pointers) and Jessie Kreuser (So., Mendota Heights, Minn., Undecided) managed seven points. Katie Golomski (So., Milwaukee, Wis., Psychology) assisted on four baskets.

Next: William Penn travels to Concordia, Minn. this weekend to compete in two more exhibition games against NCAA Division II programs. On Friday, the Lady Statesmen meet Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) at 4 p.m., while Saturday’s matchup against Northern State (N.D.) is at 2 p.m.
