Lady Statesmen End Season with 0-2 Showing at USBC Nationals

Lincoln, Neb.–The William Penn women’s bowling team was not bothered by the bright lights of the national scene during qualifying, but unfortunately that high level could not be maintained in match play as it was eliminated early at the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships Thursday.
The Lady Statesmen opened the event with a productive qualifying session, placing seventh out of 16 teams with a pin tally of 4,472 (24 Baker games). The program notched six 200-pin games, including a high of 256 in the eighth game.
Wichita State (Kan.) earned the top qualifying spot with 4,958 pins.
William Penn began the double-elimination tournament against #10 seed Florida State, but failed to hold its seed in falling 4-2 in the best-of-7 series.
Unfortunately, the program was unable to bounce back and was swept 4-0 by #15 Stephen F. Austin State (Texas) in the loser’s bracket.
Seven individuals represented the navy and gold at nationals, including Amanda Edenholm (Jr., Marysville, Wash., Marysville-Pilchuck HS), Jessica Fuja (Fr., Roselle, Ill., Lake Park HS), Jessica Ganem (Jr., Austin, Texas, Leander HS), Kirstin Newberry (Jr., Holland, Mich., West Ottawa HS), Samantha Powell (Jr., Herriman, Utah, Bingham HS), Breanne Underwood (Sr., Treynor, Treynor HS), and Abigayle Wempen (Jr., Titonka, North Iowa HS).
