Lady Statesmen Down to 43rd
Oskaloosa–Due to a somewhat slow start, the William Penn softball team has dropped a few rungs as the first NAIA national poll was released Tuesday.
The Lady Statesmen (12-10) are tied for 43rd with one point, falling from #33 in the preseason poll. The squad is still the lone representative from the Midwest Collegiate Conference and is also the only program from the state of Iowa in the ranking.
Courtesy of a 19-game winning streak, Cal State-San Marcos has taken over the top spot with 545 points and 11 first-place votes. Lubbock Christian (Texas) and Concordia (Calif.) are second and third, respectively, with three first-place votes each. Oklahoma City and Oregon Tech, who has the final three first-place votes, round out the top five.
The navy and gold begin defense of their MCC regular season crown today by traveling to Cedar Rapids to face Mount Mercy at 3 p.m.
