PELLA— A decathlon victory at the Hendrix University (Ark.) Spring Break Multis helped Central College men’s track and field athlete Ryan Kruse (junior, St. Clair, Minn.) secure the Iowa Conference men’s field events athlete of the week.

In his first decathlon of the season, Kruse won the event by over 300 points after scoring 6,038 points. He was the top performer in three of the 10 disciplines, taking the top spot in the discus throw (129 feet, 4.5 inches), javelin throw (164-4.25) and shot put (42-8.25)

Kruse was in third place after the first day of the two-day competition, but surged into first place on the second day. He passed teammate Will Daniels (freshman, Geneseo, Ill.) for the individual title.

He was an all-conference performer in the indoor and outdoor season in 2016.

The Dutch host the Central Invitational this Saturday, with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and track events starting at 1 p.m.
