Kenneth Webber
April 19, 1924 – May 6, 2018
Hedrick, Iowa | Age 94

Kenneth Webber, 94, of Hedrick died peacefully with his family by his side while under hospice care at Keokuk County Health Center on Sunday, May 6, 2018. He was born April 19, 1924, to Raymond and Elsie Cosby Webber in Cedar, Iowa.

Kenneth graduated from Cedar High School in 1941. His studies at William Penn College were interrupted as he spent four years during World War II with the Army Transport Command Band. While stationed in India, he spent much of his time working as Chaplain’s assistant.

He married Warrene Cadwallader at the Friends Church in Oskaloosa in 1947 and graduated from William Penn College with a major in music in 1949.

Kenneth taught music in What Cheer, Iowa, for three years before moving to the Hedrick farm where he continued to be involved in music and farming most of his life. He taught part time in local schools for a time, giving music lessons and accompanying many groups as well as helping them prepare for music contests. He so enjoyed encouraging their progress.

Kenneth had been involved in many activities at the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church, including serving as the pianist and organist for 59 years. He attended Methodist Men’s retreats several years as pianist and accordionist, taking his sons with him. He especially enjoyed his work with youth and keeping up with activities of his children and grandchildren as they worked on many projects together on the farm. He loved his wood-working projects, and his repair skills were always in demand. He also enjoyed working with the local Lion’s Club and helping tend the barbecue firepit overnight.

Kenneth is survived by Warrene, his wife of 70 years; a daughter, Linda (& Terry) Northcutt of Hedrick; two sons: Larry (& Patrice) Webber of Ankeny and Gary (& Miriam) Webber of Hubbard; nine grandchildren: Shanna (& Brian) Darling; Tiffany (& Jerry) Brain-Moore; Nick (& Stephanie) Brain; Justin (& Carey) Northcutt; Tate (& Kacey) Northcutt; Taylor (& Brandi) Webber; Laura Webber; Isaac (& Stacy) Webber; and Levi (& Bianca) Webber; 11 great grandchildren: Cameron, Grant, Maci, Hudson, Kenny, Jenson, Berlin, Ayrton, Cobain, Emrie, and Nora; two sisters-in-law: Eleanor Lumpkin and Iola Cadwallader; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Loraine and Ardeth Webber; brothers-in-law: Eves Cadwallader and Lee Lumpkin; and nephew, Warren Cadwallader.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 11 A.M. in the Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church in Hedrick with Pastor Tim Scheopf officiating.
No visitation is planned at this time.
A private family burial has been held in the Cedar Township Cemetery north of Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to Hedrick-Martinsburg United Methodist Church or Keokuk County Hospice.
