Keith Duane Rindels
December 16, 1950 – June 02, 2018
Montezuma, Iowa | Age 67

Keith Duane Rindels, also known as Keither, Dad, Papa, and the Reverend Mr. Pike, 67, of Montezuma, passed away on June 2, 2018 at UnityPoint Des Moines Hospital as a result of complications following heart surgery. Keith was the eldest child born to Alvin “Lefty” and Emma “Pete” Schriever Rindels on December 16, 1950 in Hampton.

Keith grew up in Bristow and graduated from Allison Bristow High School in 1969. He attended NIAC, UNI, and earned his Civil Engineer Tech Associates Degree from Hawkeye Tech.

Keith married the neighbor girl, Doris Ressler on June 2, 1972 in Allison. While living in Waterloo, they welcomed a son, Rob. The family moved to Montezuma in 1977 where their daughter, Melissa, was born.

Keith was employed as the Poweshiek County Assistant County Engineer-Secondary Roads, retiring in 2010. He served as a member of the Montezuma Fire and Rescue.

Keith was an avid fan of his grandchildren’s activities, especially their ballgames. He enjoyed music whether listening, singing, or playing his guitar at local jams or South of Highway 34.

This spring, Keith and Doris planned to make their 42nd trip to their favorite fishing spot, Pine Point in Ontario. Their fishing buddies will greatly miss Keith’s lectures on the redeeming qualities of the 14 to 17 feet of water.

Keith was a thirty year member of the Montezuma Volunteer Fire Department, IPERS Improvement & Association and the Montezuma Methodist Church. He also loved to hunt and enjoyed taking his family to Adventureland.

Those clinging to the memories they made with Keith are his wife, Doris of Montezuma; son, Rob (& Erin) Rindels of Iowa City; daughter, Melissa (& Curt) Roach of Chariton; grandchildren: Austin and Tyler Rindels of Iowa City, Madison Roach of Norwalk, and Bailey and Garret Roach of Chariton; a brother, Alan (& Joyce) Rindels of Waterloo; a sister, Kaye Rindels (& Charlie Davis) of Waterloo; friends, Gar & Rita Audlehelm and Bob & Connie Bright from South of Highway 34; and a host of relatives and friends.

Keith was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Bob and Edee Ressler; and sisters-in-law, Kathy Ressler and Kathy Rindels.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma.
Burial will be held in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Wednesday, June 6, 2018, with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Community Hope Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montezuma Fire Department.
