DARLINGTON, S.C. — Kaulig Racing walked away from the Cook Out Southern 500 with mixed results as AJ Allmendinger scored a strong top-five finish in the No. 16 Black’s Tire Service Camaro ZL1, while teammate Ty Dillon and the No. 10 Grizzly Nicotine Pouches team fought through setbacks to finish 34th.

Allmendinger Breaks Through at Darlington

Darlington Raceway has long been a challenge for Allmendinger, but Sunday night the veteran driver put together one of his best runs at the historic track. Starting 22nd, the team made steady adjustments to improve the balance of the No. 16 Chevrolet, setting the stage for progress.

A pivotal moment came on a Stage 2 pit stop, when the Kaulig pit crew gained nine positions, propelling Allmendinger into sixth. From there, he maintained track position inside the top seven, ultimately bringing home a fifth-place finish—his second top-five of the 2025 season.

“It feels awesome to get a top-five finish with our No. 16 Black’s Tire Chevrolet,” Allmendinger said. “This place has owned me, but our team executed all night. The pit crew was phenomenal, and Trent Owens made the right calls. I’m just proud of everyone for fighting all race long.”

Dillon’s Race Goes Off Sequence

For Ty Dillon, the Southern 500 was a grind. After rolling off 31st, the No. 10 Chevrolet showed early promise, moving up to 24th before the first round of green-flag pit stops. However, a slow stop dropped Dillon off the lead lap, and from there the race turned into an uphill climb.

With long green-flag runs dominating the event, the team never caught the cautions needed to regain lost track position. Dillon battled throughout the 500-mile marathon but was ultimately scored in 34th place.

Team Takeaway

Kaulig Racing leaves Darlington with momentum from Allmendinger’s performance, highlighted by sharp pit work and steady adjustments. Dillon’s struggles reflect the razor-thin margin for error in NASCAR’s longest and most demanding races.

The organization now looks ahead to the next stretch of the season, aiming to build on its progress as the Cup Series Playoffs continue.
