Karyn Louise Forsythe, age 78, of Albia, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of Friday, May 11, 2018, at the Mercy Hospice Facility in Johnston, surrounded by her family.

Karyn was born in Moline, IL on January 23, 1940, to Thomas & Maxine (Bettis) Cosgrove, Karyn was raised in Albia with her 6 siblings, who all grew-up with their Bettis-cousins as best friends.

Karyn graduated Albia High School in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Forsythe on June 3rd 1959, remaining together for over 52 years until Ray’s passing in 2011.

After living for a few years in Nevada and West Des Moines, Karyn and Ray moved back to Albia in 1977 to raise their three children in their hometown.

Karyn worked for many years at Mom & Me clothing store in Albia.

Karyn enjoyed golf league at the Albia Country Club, being a member and serving at Trinity United Methodist Church, traveling with her sisters, gardening, reading, getting together with her “Knit-wit” friends, and generally any opportunity to gather with family or friends.

Surviving her are her three children: Michael (& Kim) Forsythe, Robert (& Alice) Forsythe, and Amy (& David) Kluver; five beloved grandsons: Sutton, Rowan, & Kaiden Forsythe and William & Aaron Kluver; siblings: Michael (& Carol) Cosgrove, Gene (& J.D.) Clark, and Deb Shehan; and many loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Karyn was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Forsythe; her parents, Thomas & Maxine (Bettis) Cosgrove; and siblings: Kay Douglas, Craig Cosgrove, and Chris Cosgrove.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at the Tharp Funeral Home with Karyn’s family present throughout the afternoon and evening to greet family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia with Larry Bettis and Pastor Roger Henry co-officiating.
Following the services Karyn’s body will be cremated with a private family burial at a later date.
A memorial has been established to the Albia Public Library or the Welcome Home Soldier Memorial.
