Joyce Marilyn Hart, 88, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Delta, died Thursday, June 21, 2018, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born Monday, July 1, 1929, the daughter of Lyle and Eva Gifford.
Following high school, Joyce received her bachelor’s degree in education.
On July 15, 1951, Joyce was united in marriage to Richard Hart in Saginaw, Michigan. Richard died in October of 2013.
Joyce taught high school math in Waterloo and then retired after 20 years of teaching in Hedrick. She was an Irish Terrier breeder for many years.
Joyce enjoyed quilting, tennis, reading, watching movies and doing puzzle books. She was a member of the Irish Terrier Club of America. She enjoyed attending the quilting retreat at Beaver Island, Michigan and won numerous ribbons for her quilts.
She is survived by her two sons: Kelly (& Marilyn) Hart of Windsor Heights and Sterling (& Nancy Paris) Hart of Marion; a sister, Tina (& Hilary) Schmitt of Fowler, Michigan; a brother, Homer (& Martha) Gifford of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and a niece, Eileen (& Tom) Hattis of Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
As was her wish, Joyce’s body has been cremated.
No visitation is planned.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 6, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jim Eschenbrenner officiating.
