Jamison speaks to a group of supporters at Tassel Ridge in Leighton
Because of a technical error, our interview with Dave Jamison didn’t end up coming out correctly. He was most gracious and re-answered the questions for us, we thank him for taking that extra time.
What are your feelings on the use of state funds for apparent personal campaign ads?
As I mentioned in my remarks, I think the blatant use of job related marketing campaigns in lieu of legitimate political campaigns is unethical. The State Treasurer has spent more than $600,000 in 2010 on marketing College Savings Iowa and the Great Iowa Treasurer Hunt. A substantial increase over last year. Three years ago the CSI marketing budget was around $80,000. This year over $300,000. We know of at least one TV Broadcast company that turned down the commercials as violating the FCC “Equal Time” provisions.
What makes your qualifications better than your opponent’s?
My qualifications include a record of fighting government waste, growth and red tape. My opponent’s record is one of embracing the bureaucracy and unethical abuse of the office – not to mention the utter failure of protecting Iowa’s money.
What has been your biggest challenge to overcome in this election?
This biggest challenge in this election has been getting the attention of Iowa voters regarding the importance of this office. But I am having success. They are listening. It just takes a lot of effort and a lot of money to get the message through.
