Individual Injured In Apparent Accidental Shooting

Mahaska County Sheriff Deputies investigate what they say is probably an accidental shooting at the Hull Shooting Range west of Oskaloosa Wednesday afternoon.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Rescue workers responded to a call of an injured individual at the Hull Shooting Range  located 4 miles west of Oskaloosa Wednesday afternoon.

Paramedics and Mahaska County Deputies responded after being informed about the injury by another user of the range.

The yet unidentified victim was transported by Mahaska Health Partnership Emergency Services to the hospital where they were then transported via Mercy One air ambulance.

According to Mahaska County Sheriff Paul DeGeest, the victim was by himself and authorities are unsure how long the victim had been injured before being discovered.

The incident remains under investigation.

Oskaloosa man, Tim Goers, tells Oskaloosa News that he discovered the man and explained what happened when he arrived. “I just went out to do some practice. Got out of my truck and noticed a person laying on the ground down at the range. I went to see if they were OK and noticed a pool of blood. He was awake and breathing I ran to my truck to call 911 and went back to him. I just tried to keep him still and keep him alert.”

Goers says “the response time was very fast.”

“I hope and pray the man pulls through,” Goers said.
