Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians are ranked #1 in Class 3A in the State of Iowa. With that comes a target on your back where every team brings their A game to you.

The Indians are used to this after wearing that target most of last year as well.

Dallas Center-Grimes came to Oskaloosa on Friday night with an upset on their mind and put everything they had into upending the Indians.

DCG played a physical game, pushing the Indians, and giving Oskaloosa Head Coach Ryan Parker a look into some areas to get better on.

“When things got tough a little bit, we handled adversity,” added Parker. “We’ve got to find chances to get Cole and Xavier and Rian some minutes of break, and we will.”

“When I went into the locker room after the game, I said here’s the deal. We celebrate all wins, and we don’t apologize to anybody for winning,” said Parker.

Henry, Foster, and Yates accounted for 55 of the 61 points scored by the Indians during the contest. Parker said he’s looking for other team members to step up. “We can’t rely on those three to take every shot, and get every rebound and defend their best players.”

“The one disappointing thing, I thought our point guard play wasn’t up to par tonight. We turned it over a couple of times for layups, and we can’t do that,” said Parker.

The game between DCG and Oskaloosa started with Rian Yates shooting free throws in a technical foul, which was earned when a DCG player dunked the ball during warm-ups. “He hammered it pretty hard and snapped the rim,” explained Parker.

The Indians lead DCG going into the halftime break by a score of 33-13. The final score was 61-45.

The Indians were led by the duo of Xavier Foster and Cole Henry, each with 21 points Rian Yates added 13 points more, while Noah Van Veldhuizen added 5.

On the boards, Foster had 12 rebounds and 3 assists, 1 steal and 5 blocked shots. Henry had 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 1 blocked shot. Rian Yates had 6 rebounds, 4 assists.

Tyler Borneman led the scoring for the Mustangs with 15 points while Luke Rankin added 11 points.

The Indians travel to Washington on Tuesday night in non-conference action.
