Indianola Takes 8th Grade Indians

Oskaloosa Indians

Tuesday the 8th grade girls took on Indianola here at Oskaloosa Middle School. The girls had a tough test in front of them, knowing how good Indianola was last year. Our girls got out to a slow start and could not keep up. Getting down early and committing too many fouls and turnovers put us in a real bind. There are often teams that can beat you physically up and down the court but there are also teams that can beat you mentally. We all learned from a well coached and well disciplined team. The A team lost 14-45, the B team lost 8-25, and the C team tied 2-2.

Last night the girls took on another good team from Grinnell. The A game was a tale of two different half’s. The girls came out sluggish and did not play Indian basketball. In the second half our girls out rebounded, out scored, out defended, and out played Grinnell. Coach Knoot and I were happy to see the girls become more aggressive shooting and rebounding wise in the second half. In basketball, everyone knows you need to play every minute like its the last 60 seconds of a tie game.

The B and C game was a different story. These girls came out right away ready to play. Thanks to an aggressive 2-3 zone our girls got many steals and still found a way to rebound while playing a zone. The B game was led by Addi Carter and Olivia Stoghill whom had a surplus of steals and points. The C game was led by great guard play by Kysrten Dewees whom led us in points and steals. The final of the A game was 36-19 the B game was 22-6 and the C game was 17-0 .
