Holiday Arrangement Workshop
Create something unique for the holiday season by making a fresh evergreen arrangement for your table at the Mahaska County Master Gardeners’ Holiday Arrangement workshop on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 5:30 pm. Mike Striegel, Master Gardener intern will lead the workshop. The workshop will be held in the 4-H Meeting Room (Basement) at the Extension office. Please allow 1-2 hours to make the arrangement.
Workshop materials include fresh evergreen tree branches (likely pine, cedar, & fir) which tips of will be used to fill a floral bowl. Additional green types (possibly holly, spruce, arborvitae, or boxwood) maybe available. Artificial holly berries and a center candle will be provided for the arrangement. Floral picks will be available to use to add additional decorative items.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own evergreens, and assorted decorative items including SMALL pinecones, candies, ornaments, dried flowers, fresh flowers and/or ribbon to include in their arrangement. Attendees are encouraged to bring gloves to wear, scissors, and hand pruners.
Registration is required. Cost is $15. Workshop is limited to 20. The fees for service will be used to off-set direct expenses and to support the Agricultural and Natural Resources County Extension Program.
Mahaska County Master Gardeners are celebrating their twentieth year. The local program organized after the county held their first training. The educational volunteer program, sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, provides current, research based, home horticulture information and education to the citizens of Iowa through programs and projects. Master Gardeners receive horticulture training, and volunteer to promote a mission of education and service. The program is open to anyone 18 or older with an interest in gardening and a willingness to use their knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to make a positive impact on their local community.
Mahaska County will be hosting Master Gardener training Feb 26-May 3, 2024. Enrollment is online January 15- February 12 at the Iowa Master Gardeners website. For more information about the local training, please contact Suzette at the Mahaska County Extension office.
