Oskaloosa–William Penn University Athletics Director Greg Hafner has announced the hiring of Jon Haugen as the school’s new Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Haugen, who received his Master’s of Business Leadership from William Penn in 2011, returns to the University after spending the past year and a half operating his own business.

In addition to running the daily operations as owner/director of Warrior Performance Gym/Lenawee CrossFit in Adrian, Mich., Haugen trained athletes of all ages and skill levels–from middle school students all the way up to professional athletes. He conducted off-site speed and agility programs, and trained CrossFit competitors as well as individuals seeking general fitness programs.

“Knowing William Penn’s dedication to their athletic programs makes this an exciting opportunity,” Haugen said. “I look forward to helping with the University’s continued success in both athletics and developing quality student-athletes.”

Prior to owning his own business, Haugen was the Director of Sports Performance for Sterling Centre of Sports Performance in 2011.

In his first stint in the navy and gold, Haugen was a Graduate Assistant in the S&C department from September 2009-May 2011. He worked primarily with baseball and softball, but also assisted with all of the other intercollegiate athletic teams.

“We are very excited to have Jon back on the staff as our full-time Strength & Conditioning Coach,” Hafner said. “He was highly respected when he was here as a Graduate Assistant and will bring a great deal of knowledge to this position.”

Haugen’s placement with the baseball and softball teams was simple due to his experience with the Erie Seawolves, a Double-A affiliate for the Detroit Tigers. He worked with the organization during the 2009 season and also assisted at the Tigers’ Spring Training camp.

The beginning to his expansive resume includes internships with his alma mater Central College (2008) as well as Drake University (2008-2009).

A successful athlete in his own right, Haugen was a four-year starter on Central’s football team, helping the program to three Iowa Conference titles and three NCAA Division III playoff appearances (both in 2005, 2006, and 2007).

Haugen will bring numerous certifications to the Oskaloosa campus. He replaces Ike Hammerly, who accepted the same position with Luther College.
