GRINNELL’S BRUS SHATTERS SCHOOL, MWC RECORD IN 200 IM AT NCAA DIVISION III NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Michael Brus ’14 shattered the school and Midwest Conference record in the men’s 200-yard individual medley on the opening day of the NCAA Division III National Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday in Knoxville, Tenn.

Brus swam the race in 1:53.28, bettering the previous Pioneer record of 1:57.41 set by Brett McMillian in 2005. That time also betters the MWC mark of 1:54.06 set by Robert Edgell of Lake Forest College in 2000.

While Brus didn’t advance out of the preliminaries in the event, he easily eclipsed his seed time of 2:00.73. That moved him from a 51st-best seed time all the way up to 25th place.

Brus now owns six individual Pioneer school records.

Grinnell women’s diver Kelly Bruce ’14 will also compete Wednesday.
