Grinnell Women’s Soccer Dominates Benedictine in 4-0 Victory

The Grinnell College women’s soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Benedictine University on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Springer Field. With the win, Grinnell improved to 3-2-1 on the season, while Benedictine fell to 0-5-1.

Grinnell wasted no time establishing control of the match, dominating possession and taking 15 shots in the first half compared to none for Benedictine. The Pioneers struck first when midfielder Katie Carson netted her first goal of the season in the 14th minute, putting Grinnell up 1-0.

Campbell Swaim extended the lead in the 32nd minute with her first goal of the season, assisted by Ramona Delborne. Swaim found the back of the net again just before halftime in the 44th minute, once again assisted by Delborne, giving Grinnell a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.

Grinnell maintained its dominance in the second half, adding a fourth goal in the 61st minute. Defender Sarah Travis scored unassisted to seal the 4-0 win.

The Pioneers controlled possession throughout the game, recording 21 shots to Benedictine’s two. Grinnell also earned 11 corner kicks, while limiting Benedictine to just two. Grinnell goalkeeper Grayson Allison was untested, as Benedictine failed to put any shots on target.

Benedictine’s defense struggled to contain Grinnell’s relentless attack, with goalkeeper Katherine Prochnow making just one save on Grinnell’s five shots on target. Despite committing seven fouls, Benedictine couldn’t disrupt Grinnell’s rhythm, and the Eagles’ offense was largely ineffective.
