Grinnell Volleyball Triumphs in Five-Set Thriller Against Wisconsin-Superior
Grinnell College pulled off a dramatic 3-2 victory over Wisconsin-Superior on September 13, 2024, at the Leonard Center. In a match that featured lead changes and tense moments, the Pioneers outlasted their opponent, winning 29-27, 25-27, 23-25, 25-18, 16-14.
The Pioneers were led by Jenna Keller, who recorded a match-high 23 kills and added 44 assists, playing a pivotal role throughout the match. Millie Leonard was a strong force at the net as well, contributing 16 kills and showcasing her blocking abilities with key plays in crucial moments. Keira Sullivan also had a standout performance with 15 kills, helping to anchor Grinnell’s attack.
In the first set, Grinnell rallied from behind to take a 29-27 win, setting the tone for the competitive nature of the match. Wisconsin-Superior responded in the second and third sets, taking them 27-25 and 25-23, respectively. Grinnell regained momentum in the fourth set, winning 25-18, and pushed the match to a decisive fifth set.
The final set was a nail-biter, with the teams exchanging points and leads. Grinnell eventually edged out Wisconsin-Superior 16-14 to claim the victory, with Keller and Sullivan sealing the deal with late kills.
Grinnell’s defense played a significant role, with Sophie Weber leading the team with 27 digs. Emily Brewer and Sullivan also contributed defensively, with 16 and 10 digs, respectively.
