Grinnell Sweeps Macalester in Three-Set Victory

Grinnell College’s volleyball team dominated in a straight-set sweep over Macalester, winning 25-23, 25-22, 25-23 on September 13, 2024, at the Leonard Center. The Pioneers showcased strong teamwork and defensive prowess to improve to 8-2 on the season.

Keira Sullivan led the Pioneers with 11 kills and was supported by Hayley Taka, who added 14 assists and five kills. Jenna Keller also contributed with six kills and six assists, playing a key role in Grinnell’s balanced attack. Emily Brewer anchored the defense, registering 16 digs, while Sophie Weber added 14.

In each set, Grinnell managed to fend off a resilient Macalester team. After taking the first set 25-23, the Pioneers held strong in the second, winning 25-22, with a combination of solid hitting and consistent defense. The third set followed a similar pattern, with Grinnell maintaining composure to close out the match 25-23.

Macalester fought hard, with Ella Cohen-Richie and Avery Rahe leading their offensive effort, but they couldn’t overcome Grinnell’s well-rounded performance. Macalester dropped to 4-2 with the loss.
