Green Wins Two, Hill Takes First Crown as Outdoor Season Begins at Central

Pella–The Statesmen track and field team opened its outdoor campaign by compiling a lengthy list of top-ten performances at the Central Invitational Saturday.

Highlighted by titles in three events, William Penn tied for third with 50 points. NCAA Division I Northern Iowa won the team title with 222.5 points.

Gabriel Green (Jr., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) started his third collegiate outdoor slate on the right foot with wins in the 100 and 200-meter dashes. The junior claimed the 100 in an NAIA automatic-qualifying time of 10.65 seconds, while he topped the 200 group at 21.87 seconds.

Cody Hill (Fr., New Orleans, La., De Lasalle HS) joined Green in the winner’s circle by outdistancing everyone in the triple jump at 43-9.75.

LaBradford Williams (So., Kokomo, Ind., Brown Mackie) also placed in the top five (fourth) with a long jump effort of 20-10.75.

Trevor Volz (Fr., Adel, ADM HS) and Sam Taylor (Fr., Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) each scored points in the 100-meter hurdles. Volz was sixth in a time of 15.96 seconds, while Taylor was seventh at 15.99. Taylor also recorded a point by placing eighth in the high jump at 5-10.

The navy and golf picked up dual point-winners in two other events as well.

Terrance Conway (So., Los Angeles, Calif., West Los Angeles CC) was seventh in the 400-meter dash in 51.16 seconds, while Dexter Jordan (So., St. Louis, Mo., Forrest Park CC) was eighth in 51.18 seconds. Jordan also complemented Williams in the long jump by finishing eighth at 20-3.

Kenbea Walker (Fr., McKinney, Texas, McKinney Boyd HS), who was ninth in the 200-meter dash in 22.57 seconds, and Van Love-Scott (Fr., Detroit, Mich., Highland Park HS), who was tenth with a long jump of 20-1.75, did not score points but managed to finish inside the top ten in their respective events.

Next: William Penn travels to Fayette, Mo. next Friday to compete in the ASICS-Central Methodist/Susan G. Komen Invitational.
