Green Wins Fastest Race at Jim Duncan Invite

Des Moines–The William Penn track and field teams put a large crew of athletes on Drake University’s famous ‘Blue Oval’ Friday and Saturday and made some noise at the Jim Duncan Invitational.
Gabriel Green (Jr., Anniston, Ala., Anniston HS) topped a long list of top-ten finishers as he won the 100-meter dash (10.92 seconds) and was second in the 200 (21.78).
Armond Thigpen (Fr., Park Forest, Ill., Thornton Township HS), in seventh place at 11.33 seconds, and John Kilgore Los Angeles, Calif., West Los Angeles CC), in ninth at 11.45 seconds, also placed in the top ten in the 100, while Kenbea Walker (Fr., McKinney, Texas, McKinney Boyd HS) joined Green in the 200’s top ten in tenth place at 22.69 seconds.
The aforementioned sprinters were also strong together with the 4×100-meter relay team earning a bronze in 42.74 seconds.
William Penn’s trio of freshmen hurdlers again posted strong numbers Saturday. AJ Michael Rachford (Agency, Cardinal HS) was eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.32 seconds, while Sam Taylor (Fr., Eddyville, Eddyville-Blakesburg HS) was tenth at 15.49.
Trevor Volz (Fr., Adel, ADM HS) guided the squad in the 400-meter hurdles in 57.68 seconds (9th place).
Jalen Wilson (Fr., Desoto, Texas, Duncanville HS) was William Penn’s best long jumper, placing fourth at 22-2.5, while Dexter Jordan(So., St. Louis, Mo., Forrest Park CC) was fifth at 21-8.25 and LaBradford Williams (So., Kokomo, Ind., Brown Mackie CC) was ninth at 20-3.5.
Cody Hill (Fr., New Orleans, La., De Lasalle HS) guided a pair of top-five triple jumpers by claiming third at 42-8.25. Tyler Shipley (So., State Center, West Marshall HS) finished two spots back of him in fifth with a jump of 40-2.25.
Colt Brumbaugh (So., Keswick, Tri-County HS) was the lone thrower to make the top ten, having the ninth-longest javelin toss of 129-8.
The sprinters again guided the women’s team with the 4×1 group of Fatoumata Samura (Fr., Bronx, N.Y., Dewitt Clinton HS), Sade Myers (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Radford HS), Shaniece Dishmon (Fr., Harvey, Ill., Thornton Township HS), and Alexis Swinney (Fr., McKinney, Texas, McKinney HS) taking fourth in a time of 49.62 seconds.
Samura then finished high as an individual, crossing the line in seventh place in the 400-meter dash (59.10). Audre Harris (So., Junction City, Kan., Allen CC) was seventh as well, doing so in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.67 seconds.
Next: William Penn will return to Pella for the second time this spring, competing in the Central Open next Saturday. A select few individuals will go east instead of west as they try to get the programs on the scoreboard in the league battle as they travel to Clinton for the Midwest Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships Friday and Saturday.
