Great Week Helps Lady Statesmen Back into Poll

William Penn Women's Athletics

Oskaloosa–The William Penn softball team completed a pretty nice sweep against league competition last week and its hot streak has helped it back onto the national radar as the third NAIA poll was released Tuesday.

The Lady Statesmen (21-11, 9-1 MCC), who have won six in a row, are tied for 38th with eight points. The squad is the lone representative from both the Midwest Collegiate Conference and the state of Iowa.

Concordia (Calif.) is #1 for the first time in school history, posting 574 points and eight first-place votes. The Eagles are the fourth different team to be ranked at the top in the first four ratings.

Cal State-San Marcos is a very close second with 571 points and seven first-place votes, while Oklahoma City is right there as well with 570 points and the final six first-place votes. Central Baptist (Ark.) and Lubbock Christian (Texas) round out the top five.

William Penn travels to Forest City Wednesday to face Waldorf in an MCC doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
