PELLA — A display of graphic design artwork by Mark Marturello, graphic artist for the Des Moines Register, will be featured at the Central College Mills Gallery Nov. 2-23.

The exhibit contains samples of his Des Moines Register work as well as current children’s book projects. It also features a special display highlighting Marturello’s graphic designs for the Des Moines Register’s op-ed page.

Marturello will host a gallery talk and reception Nov. 22 at 5 p.m.

An Iowa native, Marturello traces his love for illustration to his childhood, when his father taught him to draw. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, he earned his B.F.A. from Grand View University in 1982. He has worked at the Des Moines Register since 1988.

Marturello has been honored with several awards. He has won illustration awards from the Iowa Art Directors, and several of his pieces have been recognized by the Society for News Design. In 2008 the National Cartoonists Society honored him with its top award for newspaper illustration.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Mills Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, contact Treva Reimer at 641-628-5334 or remiert@central.edu.
