Glen Alan Vos, 87, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, November 11, 2017, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born Wednesday, November 21, 1929, in Pella, the son of James and Lois Waltz Vos.

Glen graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the Class of 1947. He then attended Central College for a year and Vennard College for a year.

On December 24, 1950, Glen was united in marriage to Rita Foxall in Oskaloosa.

Glen retired, as a Major and Company Commander in Oskaloosa and Ottumwa, from the Army National Guard after 29 years of service.

Early on, Glen worked at John Morrell in Ottumwa and later at the Post Office in Oskaloosa as the Superintendent of Post Office Operations and he retired from there after more than 30 years of service.

Glen enjoyed camping, traveling, exploring and taking “shortcuts”. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially football and baseball. Glen cherished the trips he took to Dallas with his boys to watch the Cowboys. He was a member of Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa where he taught Sunday School and served on the board.

Glen is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Rita Vos of Oskaloosa; a daughter, Carol Denise (& Merlin) Hite of New Sharon; two sons: Gene David Vos of Oskaloosa and Timothy Scott (& Peggy) Vos of Naperville, Illinois; four grandchildren: Jacqueline (& Jason) Murphy, Dustin (& Kate) Hite, Darin Hite and Jill (& Cody) Schuring; and five great grandchildren: Tyson and Keira Murphy, Abigail and Molly Hite and Trenton Schuring.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen Mark Vos; and two brothers, Jim and Gene Vos.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at 10:30 A.M. in the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Rodney DeRonde officiating.
Burial will be in University Park Cemetery.
Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, November 14, 2017, after 1 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Tuesday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa.
