Gladys M. Foster, 90, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born January 1, 1928, on the family farm southwest of Beacon, the daughter of Harry and Eva Mae Siders McFall.

When Gladys was young her mother Eva died. Her father later married Effie Covey, and she raised Harry and Eva’s children as her own.

Gladys attended Union #3 Country School in Mahaska County and later attended Oskaloosa High School.

On March 27, 1945, she was united in marriage to Charles Junior Foster at Oskaloosa. To this union three children were born, Don, Bob, and Diane. Junior died June 1, 2003.

Gladys worked in various restaurants in Oskaloosa including, Elmhurst Country Club, Checkerboard Café, and Canary Cottage. She later worked at Ideal Manufacturing in Oskaloosa. She also sold Avon for many years. Gladys owned and operated Foster’s Ceramics in Oskaloosa for a few years.

She enjoyed baking and painting ceramics. She delighted in spending time with her family. For the past three years Crystal Heights Care Center has been her home, she and her family are forever grateful of the love and care she received from the staff at the care center.

Her family includes her three children and their spouses: Don and Idy Foster of New Sharon, Bob and Charlotte Foster of Phoenix, Arizona, and Diane and Ron Bower of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren: Brian Foster, Kim Foster, Jeff (& Karie) Foster, Jodi (& Tim) Brackett, Mike (& Carrie) Bunnell, Derrick (& Nicole) Bunnell, and Jason (& Heidi) Bunnell; sixteen great-grandchildren: Brandon Foster, Mallory Foster, Samantha Strain, Mira Foster, Lindsay Foster, Mason Foster, Bensen Foster, Clayton Brackett, Colton Brackett, Haley Bunnell, Lucas Bunnell, Dalton Bunnell, Josie Bunnell, Gus Bunnell, Emma Bunnell, and Jack Bunnell; three great-great-grandchildren: James Foster, Sabastian Foster, and Nevah Foster; a brother and his wife, Rex and Marjorie McFall of Oskaloosa; a sister in law, Geraldine Visser of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her step mother, Effie McFall; a sister, Betty Louise McFall; two brothers, Harry Howard McFall and Dale McFall; and a son in law, Dennis Bunnell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 10, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Sunday after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 6-8 Sunday evening to greet friends and relatives.
