Gene Eileen Clark, age 77, of Albia IA, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at her home in Albia, surrounded by her loved ones and under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. Gene was born on November 13, 1944, in Moline, IL, to Thomas and Maxine (Bettis) Cosgrove.
Gene grew up attending school and graduated from the Albia High School.
On August 16, 1964, Gene was united in marriage to the love of her life, J.D. Clark, at the Methodist Church in Albia. To this union, 3 children were born, David John, Kristan, and Kandi. Gene and J.D. shared 57 years of marriage prior to her passing.
Gene was a hard worker, who in her younger years, worked as a waitress and worked at Hy-Vee. She and J.D. owned and operated J.D. Glass Company and later Albia Glass Company. She was very knowledgeable in the business and talented working alongside J.D., helping glaze and install glass. Gene also worked as a receptionist at the Monroe County Specialty Clinic and was a devoted mother and homemaker, raising her children.
Gene was a very caring and generous person. She had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, and enjoyed getting together with the KnitWits. Gene loved her dogs, Macy Jo and Baron. Above all else, family was everything to Gene and she cherished all of the time spent with them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed attending their events and keeping up with their activities.
Gene is survived by her husband, J.D. Clark; 2 daughters, Kristan (& Jeff) Stephens and Kandi Clark; 6 grandchildren: Cody (& Lisa) Clark, Cassie Henderson, Bryan (& Sam) Stephens, Adam (& Bri) Stephens, Andy (& Erin Heaton) Stephens, and Brenna Stephens; 3 great grandchildren: Kinsley, Presley, and Liam Henderson; and 2 siblings, Michael (& Carol) Cosgrove and Deb Shehan. Gene is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
Gene was preceded in death by a son, David John Clark; her parents, Thomas and Maxine Cosgrove; siblings, Kay Douglas, Craig Cosgrove, Chris Cosgrove, and Karyn Forsythe; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Gene’s family present from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. to greet family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Larry Bettis officiating.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established to Care Initiatives Hospice in Albia or to the family.
