Gary M. Moore, 77, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born August 25, 1944, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Louis and Francis Padgett Moore.

Gary attended school in Oskaloosa. Following school, he went to work at a bakery in Oskaloosa.

On September 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Connie Jo Stout in Knoxville. To this union two children were born, Christine and Terry. On September 1, 2019, Connie preceded Gary in death.

Gary owned and operated a tree trimming and removal service in Oskaloosa for a few years. Most of his working life he spent operating heavy equipment and cranes. He was a union crane operator on many construction sites all over the Midwest. In 1999, he retired due to an injury at work.

Gary was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineer #234. He was also involved with a C.B. club and Ham Radio Operator club in Oskaloosa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and watching NASCAR.

His family includes his two children, Christine Moore and Terry Moore both of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren: Justin Dugger, Jasper Pothoven, Jessie Moore, and Jacob Moore; six great grandchildren: Desaray Dugger, Nevaeh Pothoven, Sky Pothoven, J.J. Pothoven, Reilly Pothoven, and Sterling Pothoven; a great great grandchild and one great great grandchild on the way; his brothers and sisters: Bonnie Newell of Oskaloosa, Jr. (& Marva) Moore of California, Shirley Moore (& Clarence) of Oskaloosa, Keith Moore of Fremont, Sharon (& Bill) Barnes of Oskaloosa, and Brenda (& Richard) Shappell of What Cheer; brothers and sisters in law,: Mike (& Mary) Stout, Georgette (& Lee) Alexander, and Larry (& Gloria) Stout; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his wife Connie Jo, Gary was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sarah and Dixie Moore; a brother-in-law, Dean Newell, and a sister in law, Alice Moore.

As was Gary’s wish his body has been cremated.
A graveside memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
