OSKALOOSA – The Mahaska County YMCA is hosting a “Community Appreciation Day” at the YMCA on March 18. This is an opportunity for Mahaska County residents to take advantage of programming, swimming, weight rooms, and a variety of classes completely free of charge.

“There’s a lot to see and a lot to do,” said Executive Director David Phelps, “ and some new spaces to see. We want the community as well as our members to know we appreciate their support.”

The Y facility will be open all day for members and non-members alike to drop in, try a class, and “check everything out,” Phelps said.

A “Free Family Fun Night” will close out the day from 6 to 8 p.m. The Y has partnered with Mahaska Health Partnership and Blue Zones Project for these two hours filled with free demonstrations, door prize drawings, food samples, and free activities including: Open Swim, Kids in Motion Challenge and Tag Games, Karate and Dance classes, facility tours, massages and food samples. Those attending will enjoy educational opportunities and presentations by MCRF, the Oskaloosa Public Library, Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter, and Blue Zones.
