Four Earn All-Heart Recognition, Brooks Named COY

Oskaloosa–Four members of the Statesmen men’s bowling team–plus their coach–garnered much-deserved recognition Sunday as they were named to the inaugural all-Heart of America Athletic Conference teams.

Curtis Majka (Sr., Elgin, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) was named to the five-person first team, while Nick Walker (Sr., Zeeland, Mich., Business Management), Aleksander Kostric (So., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management), and Rok Kostric (So., Koper, Slovenia, Sports Management) all collected second-team accolades (also five individuals on the second squad).

Head Coach Brandon Brooks was tabbed as the league’s Coach of the Year as well. He has led the team to eight top-10 tournament finishes, including four times as runner-up. The Statesmen will be competing at their ninth-consecutive sectional tournament next weekend with a trip to nationals on the line.

Majka currently owns a team-best 209.7 pin average over 56 games with a high game of 279. The senior has recorded five top-10 finishes this year.

Walker is second for William Penn with a 206.7 average (56 games, high of 266) and has produced two top-10 showings and three top-25 efforts.

Aleksander Kostric, who is averaging 203.1 pins in 51 rounds, has placed in the top 10 once and in the top 25 on three other occasions. The sophomore has the best single game for any Statesmen this year at 290.

At 201.4 (54 games, high of 280), Rok Kostric has been in the top 10 once and in the top 25 in two other tournaments.

Sam Cantrell of Grand View earned Heart Player of the Year laurels, while Maxwell Roers (Mount Mercy) was named Newcomer of the Year.
