The United States Army ¶ SP4 (T)

The flag flying over the bandstand in November honors Dale Braden.

After graduating from Oskaloosa Senior High School in 1966, Dale enlisted in the United States Army on September 21, 1966. He completed 2 months of training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He serving his country as a combat engineer, spending a year in Vietnam. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and atwo Overseas Service Bars, and a Sharpshooter Badge and was discharged on September 20, 1968. Dale was immensely proud of his military service and carried that pride with him throughout his life.

Dale spent many years driving a wrecker, served on the Sheriff’s Posse, and devoted the majority of his working years to Vermeer as a welder. Retirement didn’t exactly mean slowing down for Dale. He continued working part-time as a mechanic and helped Cindy with her in-home daycare. After all, sitting still was never really his strong suit.

Left to cherish Dale’s memory are his wife, Cindy; son, Kevin; and Daughter, Tanya (Kyle) Mitterer. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Kaleigh, Adelynn and Karver.
