Fire claims apartments and business in Oskaloosa tonight

Fire struck this evening around 5:30, claiming some apartments and a business, Precise Imaging located in a connecting structure. A pedestrian noticed smoke coming from the apartment building and called 911.

The cold and low water pressure made fighting the fire difficult, as firefighters attempted to get warmed up in a nearby business.

Oskaloosa Fire Chief Neff told concerned citizens that everyone was accounted for and safe.

Oskaloosa Fire along with its reserves and representatives from at least New Sharon and Eddyville, battled the blaze that could be seen from miles away.

The Red Cross was on hand passing out food and hot drinks provided by McDonalds and Hy-Vee and others.

Both buildings are complete losses.
