Family Reading Night Comes To OES

A large crowd was on hand Thursday night at OES for Family Reading Night

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Second Annual Family Reading Night was held Thursday evening at the Oskaloosa Elementary School. Parents and students could RSVP to the event and were served dinner that included a hot dog, chips, cookie and a drink from 5:00 to 7:30 in the commons area at the school.

“This is an opportunity to invite families in and kind of show them some different reading strategies that parents and families can use at home to help increase kids awareness of reading and try to get them more involved in what kids are learning here at school”, Oskaloosa Elementary Principle Matthew Dunsbergen explained. He talked about how the reading night is one more important tool in helping kids and families explore more reading.

Dunsbergen said that there were nearly 800 guests planned for the reading night, but he hoped that more would be in attendance.

It was good to see so many parents being involved in their children’s education and it looked as though the night and event was a big success.

Oskaloosa Elementary is a Title 1 school as defined by the US Department of Education as: The purpose of this title is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.
