Excellent Baker Play Moves WPU into Top 10 at Kegel/ISBPA Event

Addison, Ill.–The Statesmen women’s bowling team was on point during Baker play as it finished high at the Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic Saturday and Sunday.

In the largest tournament of the season, WPU placed ninth out of 61 teams with 8,320 pins in five regular games and 20 Baker rounds. Lindenwood (Mo.) won the team title with 8,702 pins. The navy and gold entered Baker competition in 12th, but picked off three teams with a terrific ‘team’ scoring total of 3,787, which was fourth-best in the field.

Haley Cummings of Lindenwood topped the 376 individual bowlers in qualifying with a 222.4 average.

Bailey Palmer (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Biology) led William Penn with a 187.8 mark, while Kayla Gifford (Jr., Camanche, Iowa, Biology) was not far behind at 185.2.

Nicole Craft (Jr., Wakefield, Neb., Physical Education), at 179.6, and Amber Ovel (Sr., Waterloo, Iowa, Psychology), at 171.4, also started in all five rounds.

Nicole Mottier (So., Madison, Wis., Computer Science) rolled in four rounds with a 178.0, while Kaylee Gerken (Sr., Dubuque, Iowa, Elementary Education) had a strong single game of 201.

Next Up: William Penn takes two weeks off before traveling to Fairview Heights, Ill. on Feb. 2-3 to compete in the McKendree Baker Challenge.
