Elaine Malloy, 80, of Oskaloosa, died peacefully, Friday, June 29, 2018, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born Tuesday, March 8, 1938, in University Park, the daughter of William and Nellie Neels Veldhuizen.
Elaine attended a country school near Rose Hill and later graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1956.
On October 15, 1957, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Malloy at Oskaloosa. Kenneth died September 13, 1966.
Early on, they attended First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa until she and Kenneth moved to Newton. Elaine helped her family on the farm and later worked at the Faulkner’s Produce in Oskaloosa and St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids for a time. She also worked as an usher at the Southern Iowa Speedway in the late 60’s and early 70’s. While working at the speedway, Elaine took part in an ostrich and elephant race.
Her passion was in childcare, whether it was watching children for work or babysitting grandchildren, she was happiest with little kids around. She was a Conway Twitty, Patsy Cline and George Jones fan. She loved going for a “cruise” in the car and was proud to have taught two of her granddaughters to drive. Elaine loved spending time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
Her family includes her three children and their spouses: Kimberly (& Scott) Langfitt of Oskaloosa, Rodney (& Patty) Malloy of Oskaloosa, and Rocky (& Melissa) Malloy of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren: Afton (& Russell) Kirk, Landon (& Ashley) Sytsma, Morgan Malloy, Dylan Malloy, and Carly Malloy; five great grandchildren: Aaliyah Sytsma, Kinsey Kraber, Blake Sytsma, Tenley Sytsma and Cash Malloy; a brother, Darryl Veldhuizen of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Janice Meinders; and a brother in infancy, Leon Veldhuizen.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 2 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Monday, July 2, 2018 after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel Monday from 5:30- 7:30 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
