Eddyville Combine Fire Reminds Us The Dangers Of Dry Conditions

This combine caught fire just south of Eddyville Wednesday afternoon

Eddyville, Iowa -An afternoon combine fire should help reminds us all how vulnerable field conditions are, and how easily a fire can start and spread. Additional info was not available yet on the combine, damages or possible injuries, the National Weather Service has issued the following statement earlier in the day concerning the dry conditions.

“BREEZY CONDITIONS AND A DRY AIR MASS WILL ONCE AGAIN BE CONDITIONS TO CONTEND WITH FOR THE NEXT 36 TO 48 HOURS. DESPITE SLIGHTLY HIGHER DEWPOINTS TODAY…THE RISK OF CROPLAND FIRES REMAINS HIGH. SURROUNDING GRASSLANDS WOULD ALSO BE AT RISK.”

I asked Oskaloosa Fire Captain Dave Christenson if there were currently any burn bans in place. He wasn’t aware of any at this time.
