Dutch track and field program loads up on academic awards
PELLA-The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its postseason academic accolades Monday and the Central College men’s and women’s track and field teams earned the All-Academic Team honors and 21 individual student-athletes in earning academic honors.
The Dutch women earned a team grade point average of 3.713, securing the team award for the ninth consecutive year and 17th time overall. The men topped the 3.100 standard for the third time at 3.126.
Eleven Central women and 10 Dutch men were recognized for the individual award. To qualify, an athlete must post a minimum 3.30 GPA and qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship, finish the regular season ranked in the top 50 in an individual event or in the top 35 in a relay event.
Caroline McMartin (senior, Pella) also became a four-time honoree as Megan Johnson (senior, Parkersburg, Aplington-Parkersburg HS) earned her third honor. Olivia Bohlen (sophomore, Belle Plaine), Mary Gustason (sophomore, Marion, Linn-Mar HS), Emily McMartin (sophomore, Pella), Addison Parrott (junior Danville), Abbi Roerdink (senior, Tiffin, Ohio, Hopewell-Loudon HS) and Peyton Steffen (sophomore, Marion) all picked up their second award.
Central’s women’s program has had 63 athletes gain USTFCCCA all-academic honors 113 times.
Noah Jorgenson (senior, Sidney) became a four-time honoree while Adam Sylvia (junior, Rochester, Mass., Old Rochester HS) was honored for the third time. Gavin Smith (sophomore, Audubon) was also a repeat selection, earning his second accolade.
Central’s men have had 50 athletes win the award 79 times.
