DPS Cautions against Impaired Driving this New Year’s Eve

Iowa Department of Public Safety

Des Moines, IOWA — Time to ring in the New Year with good friends and a glass of Champaign. Just be sure you and your friends don’t get behind the wheel once you’ve toasted 2011. Driving drunk, or even buzzed, is a choice that will land you behind bars or at the local morgue. Don’t be another motor vehicle fatality—like the 19 others, so far this month.

State officials have learned of six more Iowans who tragically lost their lives on Iowa roadways. Combined with previous deaths, this brings the December motor vehicle total to 19. As we have in previous week, this Friday we’ll add six more green light bulbs to the Tree of Life as a visual representation of the precious lives lost.
