Dorothy passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Cottages Assisted Living in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Dorothy Jean Smith, daughter of George and Pearl O. Smith, was born on December 7, 1925 in Oskaloosa. She worked as an obstetrics nurse for 45 years at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa before her retirement.

Her family includes one brother, Dale M. Smith of Williamsburg, IA and three nieces: Judith (Robert) Crawford, Jacquelin (Hugh) Rick, and Colleen Sheeley, and an extended family of great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Stafford and Joyce Wymore, and a nephew, Jeffery Jilovec.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jeffry Belger of St. Mary’s Catholic Church officiating.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday morning at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from noon to 12:45 p.m., at which time a procession will gather to leave for the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in Dorothy’s name.
