Dorothy Bunting
Dorothy Bunting, 97, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. She was born January 23, 1915, at Fremont, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Flossie M. Caves Robbins. She graduated from Fremont High School. On December 30, 1939, she was united in marriage to Elvie Vincent Bunting at Lancaster, Missouri; he died January 11, 1977. She worked for a time in the Food Department at William Penn College. She also worked for Ideal Manufacturing for nearly three years. She enjoyed playing all types of board and card games; however BINGO was always her favorite. She also enjoyed going to the Oskaloosa City Band concerts on Thursday evenings and going to musicals at George Daily Auditorium.
Her family includes, five brothers, Dale (& Shirley) Robbins of Oskaloosa, David (& Ivalene) Robbins of Oskaloosa, Harold (& Bernice) Robbins of Norwalk, Rex Robbins of Des Moines, and Paul (& Mary) Robbins of Omaha, Nebraska; two sisters, Pauline (& George) Blake of Oskaloosa and Carolyn Brummel of Leighton; a sister in law: Clover Robbins of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Judy Bunting in 1966; three brothers: one in infancy, Dwight Robbins and Keith Robbins; a sister, Elizabeth Dalbey; 2 brother in laws: Jack Dalby and Earl Brummel; and a sister in law: Margaret Robbins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 6, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Tom Palmer officiating. Burial will be in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Open visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel. The family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel from 9:30 until service time at 10:30 on Friday morning to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
