Doris Herington, 69, of Tracy, died Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at the Pella Hospice Comfort House in Pella. She was born January 31, 1949, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Lucius and Georgia Lutz Eighme.

Doris graduated from Mt. Ayr High School with the class of 1967. Following high school, she worked at the Hy-Vee distribution center in Chariton. Later that year she was united in marriage to Larry Greene and moved to Tracy, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Lori and Kevin. Doris and Larry later divorced.

Doris went to work at Twin Cedars High School as a secretary. She later worked for a year at Garden and Associates in Oskaloosa. Doris returned to the school and retired from there as the district business manager in 2004 after 32 years of combined service. In retirement she worked at Curves in Knoxville.

While working for the school Doris was an active member of the Iowa State Education Association, where she had served as secretary, treasurer, vice president, and president. She was also a member of the Tracy United Methodist Church.

On January 30, 1998, she was united in marriage to Roger Herington in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. With this union Doris gained a son John and a daughter Nicole.

She enjoyed riding bikes and walking with Roger, especially the trails at Lake Red Rock. Doris’ family was a focal point of her life. She delighted in having her children, grandchildren and especially great grandchildren around her. She and Roger spent many nights and weekends chasing grandchildren’s activities.

Her family includes her husband of over 20 years, Roger Herington of Tracy; four children: Lori Richards (& Brenton Sielaff) of Kellogg, Kevin (& Shannon) Greene of Tracy, John (& Tracy) Herington of Wellsburg, and Nicole Abernathy of Oskaloosa; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a brother in law, Dennis Miller of Oskaloosa; a sister in law, Sharon Bailey of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her twin sister, Mary Miller.

Funeral service will be held Monday, September 10, 2018, at 11: 00 a.m. in the Tracy United Methodist Church with Pastor Diana Pollard officiating.
Burial will be in the Bellefountaine Cemetery at Tracy. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family present will be Monday morning at the Tracy United Methodist Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
