Donna Bowen, 68, of Oskaloosa passed away early Wednesday morning, August 21, 2013, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Services Serenity House.
Donna Jean Bowen, daughter of Manford and Lois (Almond) Burkhart, was born, July 2, 1945, in Knoxville, Iowa. She was a graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Donna married Steve C. Bowen, November 22, 1979. He passed away March 25, 2001. Donna worked at McDonalds and also worked as a housekeeper.
In her spare time, Donna did craftwork and sold the items she made. She also enjoyed BINGO, crocheting, and watching her son, Wesley, and nephew, Marty Almond, race in figure 8 races. She cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Donna’s family includes her sons: Tony Almond and Wes (Davina) Van Helten, her daughter, Marlene Van Helten, and a grandson she adopted, Austin (Stephanie) Krusemark Bowen, all of Oskaloosa; eight additional grandchildren: Cassie Lynn Almond, MacKenzie Van Helten, Clinton Van Helten, Michael Cooper, Stevie (Samantha) Krusemark, Stephanie Anderson, Kayla Jordan and Bradley Jordan, all of Oskaloosa; six great grandchildren: Kaylynn Almond, Kaden Almond, Braxton and Maddie Krusemark, Jonathan Krusemark and Mia Anderson; three step-brothers: Bobby Jo Burkhart of Knoxville, Dick Brueklander of Oskaloosa, and Ralph Sorenson of Harvey; and a step-sister, Dixie Smith of Knoxville.
In addition to her father and her husband, Steve Bowen, Donna was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Van Helten; her ex-husband, Buck Van Helten; a brother, Leroy Almond and a step-sister, Alberta Rankin.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Henness Cemetery, 285th ST Oskaloosa.
