Donald Hedlund, 83, of Hedrick, died Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He was born Sunday, June 24, 1934, in Fremont, the son of Carl and Opal V. Williams Hedlund.

Donald graduated from Hedrick High School with the Class of 1951. Following school, Donald worked as a plumber for a time and later at Kenmar Manufacturing in Ottumwa as an upholsterer for about 5 years.

On November 10, 1953, Donald was united in marriage to Helen Hawk at the Hedrick Baptist Church in Hedrick.

Donald went to work as service manager, parts manager and service writer at numerous GM dealerships in Southern and Eastern Iowa and as far away as Arizona for 45 years. Don and Helen later moved to the Denver, Colorado area where they owned and operated a lawn service, mowing 110 yards a week. After moving back to Iowa, they mowed 13 cemeteries in Southeast Iowa. Don was very handy, he could fix anything, anywhere, at any time.

Donald was a member of Hedrick Baptist Church, Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fixing old vehicles and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Helen Hedlund of Hedrick; his brother-in-law, Cliff (& Carolyn) Hawk of Aubrey, Texas; two nieces; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 1:30 P.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Reverend Bill Hines officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery North of Martinsburg.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017, from 11:30 A.M. until service time at 1:30 P.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with the family present at the funeral chapel during that time to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the family.
