Difficult Day Wraps Up Cardinal Stritch Tourney

William Penn Women’s Athletics

Milwaukee, Wis.–The Lady Statesmen soccer team played its third full game in the span of as many days Monday and it showed as William Penn was defeated 9-0 by Goshen (Ind.) in non-conference play at the Cardinal Stritch Tournament.

William Penn (0-4) had little-to-nothing left in the tank, giving up three goals before half and six more in the second period.

Kirsty Fraser (Jr., Perth, Australia, Iowa Central CC) recorded the team’s only shot, while Amber Klootwyk (Fr., Knoxville, Knoxville HS), Ali Parks (Jr., Omaha, Neb., Central HS), and Laura Gentry (Jr., Fruitland, Idaho, Fruitland HS) combined for 18 saves.

“I unfortunately do not think we can take anything away from this game other than getting more game-fit,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “Playing three games in three days was a nightmare scenario for this squad and gave us very little chance to be successful from the beginning. We will look to dust ourselves off and try to get some confidence back on the practice field before this weekend’s games.”

Next: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa to host the William Penn Classic this weekend. The Lady Statesmen first play Mount Marty (S.D.) Friday at 6 p.m. before taking on Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) Sunday at noon.
