Dewayne A. Rutherford, 66 of Evans, died Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born Saturday, November 3, 1945 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of Fred and Evelyn Rutherford Kauffman. He attended school in Spring Valley. Following school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during Vietnam. Following his discharge he worked at several various jobs including Pepsi and lastly at Clow where he retired in 2008. On January 14, 1988, Dewayne was united in marriage to Carol McMurray in Oskaloosa. Dewayne loved racing and enjoyed going fishing.

His family includes his wife: Carol Rutherford of Evans, Iowa; two sons: Wayne Allen Rutherford of Cedar Rapids and James Albert (& Tami) Rutherford of North English; a daughter: Candi (& Glen) Gibson of Oskaloosa; his mother: Evelyn Kauffman of Sigourney; 6 grandchildren: Cara McMurray, Patrick Rutherford, Brandon Rutherford, Jayson Rutherford, Zane Gibson, and Jaden Gibson; two brothers: Steve (& Karen) Kauffman and Danny (& Vickie) Kauffman of Rose Hill; 4 sisters: Kathy Meeker of Hedrick, Alma (& Kyle) Morgan of Rose Hill, Nancy (& Lyle) Whitlatch of Oskaloosa, Nanette (& Gary) Jochims of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father: Fred Kauffman; a brother: Ronald Kauffman; and a sister: Carolyn Kauffman.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor John DeBoef officiating. Burial will be in the Indianapolis Cemetery near What Cheer. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation will begin Monday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel from 5 – 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the Dewayne Rutherford Memorial Fund.
