Delbert Charles Klima

Delbert Charles Klima, 80, of Oskaloosa and formerly of Fremont, died Friday, December 23, 2011, at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born Monday, March 23, 1931, the son of Ernest and Mary Kroul Klima in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from the Solon High School with the class of 1950. Following high school, he attended a radio electronics school in Omaha, Nebraska, where he received his radio engineer certification. In 1952 he was drafted into the US Army and was on active duty for 2 years stationed in several places including Mannheim, Germany. On October 12, 1956 he was united in marriage to Beverly Fry at Cedar Rapids. Following his discharge he launched his career in electronics service work, first with KCRG of Cedar Rapids, he then went to work for Communications Engineering in Cedar Rapids, Grinnell and Marshalltown. Lastly, he worked at McCall Communications in Ottumwa and worked there until his retirement in 1993. In 1975, he and his family moved to Fremont where they lived until he and Bev moved to Oskaloosa in 2010. He was a Cub Scout Master for several years, a member of WBCCI (Air Stream Trailer Club), enjoyed traveling, camping and trailering with Bev and the 17 years of retirement they spent together wintering in Apache Junction, Arizona. He had a deep faith in the Lord and attended the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa. He loved his family and enjoyed games of Fast Track and Shuffleboard with his family and many friends. Some of his favorite pastimes was helping his friends diagnose computer problems and listening to Polka music.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Beverly Klima of Oskaloosa; a daughter: Pam (Nick) Heinz of Woodstock, Illinois; two sons: Paul Klima of Ottumwa and David (Laura) Klima of Fremont; 7 grandchildren: Cara Cunat and Wade Cunat of McHenry, Illinois, Nicholas Heinz IV and Jorie Heinz of Chicago, Illinois, Troy (Brynn) Cunat of Middleton, Wisconsin, Cody Klima and Tyler Klima of Fremont, Iowa; two great grandchildren: Kohl Lohmeyer and Leah Cunat of McHenry, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother: Harold Klima.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 31, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa with Reverends Dave Childers and Ralph Sprunk officiating. As was his wish, his body has been cremated. Visitation will be held at the Gateway Church in Oskaloosa on Saturday, December 31 from 12:00 noon until service time at 1:30 p.m. with the family present at the church from noon until service time to greet friends and relatives. No burial is planned at this time. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa, the Senior Center in Oskaloosa or the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa.
