Oskaloosa–Statesmen men’s golfer Adriaan de Villiers (Sr., Akasia, South Africa, Industrial Technology) wrapped up a strong collegiate career with his first league honor as the 2012-2013 all-Midwest Collegiate Conference men’s golf teams were announced today.

de Villiers was named to the seven-person honorable-mention squad, while the league’s top five players, as voted on by the MCC’s coaches, garnered first-team recognition.

Michael Slavin of Grand View was named MCC Player of the Year, while Chris Winkel of Grand View was tabbed as MCC Coach of the Year for the fourth-consecutive season. Thailer Carlson of AIB earned MCC Newcomer of the Year laurels.

de Villiers owned a team-best 76.6 stroke average over 20 rounds of competition. The senior broke the school’s unofficial 18-hole record with a 66 at the AIB Invitational last September.

He placed in the top ten four times (ten events), including a bronze at AIB last fall, and managed to shoot in the 70s on 17 occasions.
