DCI Investigates Amber Alert Website Breach

Iowa Department of Public Safety

Des Moines, IOWA — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has begun an investigation involving a breach of the server that hosts the AMBER Alert website on Saturday, November 27, 2010. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) did not issue an AMBER Alert on Saturday, November 27, 2010. The same server hosts the Iowa State Patrol’s Crash Reports Website. Both websites are temporarily out of service.

In the event of a real AMBER Alert, DPS will still be able to communicate information through the media, National Weather Service, the Emergency Alert System and Iowa Broadcasters Association.

Crash Reports can be obtained by contacting the Iowa State Patrol district offices. For a list, go to http://www.dps.state.ia.us/ISP/districts/districtmap.shtml.

This is an ongoing criminal investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
